Kankwanzi
A few days ago we wrote about Domina who acts in a role-play called Urunana, and some people wrote to us asking about Kankwanzi. Due to that, we then talked to her as an actress who acts in role-play.
Her actual names are Muhutukazi Marie Mediatrice, she known as Kankwanzi in the role-play Urunana. She’s 46 years of age; she has 3 children and agrees that being that kind of artist is use of a gift she was given.
She starting acting in role-plays while she was still a high school student in 1978, then later she joined the Rafiki troupe and continued on with Liprodhor.
She later on continued doing her profession in the Mashirika troupe, which she left and started playing in “Urunana” in which she acts in a role-play on the radio.
She has a daughter who is also following suit as she acts the role of Claire in Urunana role-play.
According to her this art is developing as time goes by and she actually earns a living from it. She asks people who follow that role-play to always distinguish between the role one acts and their actual life. “People get it the other way round, they take one’s actual life to be the very role they heard her act in the role-play” she says.
